Losing weight is never easy — especially when gyms feel intimidating, expensive, or simply don’t fit into your daily routine. My name is Nadeesha, and I want to share how I lost 20 kilograms in 6 months without ever stepping into a gym, using nothing but consistency, a positive mindset, and some space in my living room.
The Turning Point
I hit my heaviest weight at 84kg in early January. Every morning, I woke up tired, unmotivated, and uncomfortable in my own body. But the moment that changed everything? A photo at a family wedding. I barely recognized myself. I knew then I had to take action — not just to look better, but to feel better, live longer, and reclaim my confidence.
My Home Routine
Instead of jumping into a complicated gym membership, I started with what I had — my body and a small space.
Week 1 to Week 4:
I began with 20-minute walks inside the house and 10 minutes of beginner YouTube yoga every morning. I focused more on movement than perfection.
Month 2 and 3:
Once walking became easy, I switched to HIIT workouts — 15 minutes a day using free apps. I added jumping jacks, squats, lunges, and planks to my routine. I also began intermittent fasting, eating only between 10am and 6pm.
Month 4 to 6:
I stayed consistent, increasing workout time to 30 minutes. I included resistance bands and simple dance workouts for fun. I also followed the 80/20 rule: 80% healthy food, 20% treats.
What I Ate (and Didn’t)
-
No sugar drinks, white bread, or late-night snacks.
-
More fruits, vegetables, boiled eggs, oats, and lean meats.
-
I made meal prep simple: brown rice, dhal curry, grilled chicken, and lots of greens.
-
Hydration was key. I drank 2.5 liters of water daily.
My Mindset Shift
What truly helped me was understanding that progress is not instant. I stopped checking the scale daily. Instead, I focused on energy, sleep quality, and how my clothes fit. I took weekly progress photos, and every little visible change pushed me forward.
The Results
By the end of 6 months, I had lost 20kg, reduced my waist size by 8 inches, and felt more confident than ever before. My skin looked better, my energy levels were through the roof, and most importantly — I fell in love with taking care of my body.
Final Words
You don’t need a fancy gym or expensive equipment. All you need is the right mindset, simple habits, and the willingness to start small. Your transformation might not be fast — but it will be real and lasting. If I did it, so can you!
